Ok, I have installed WordPress on my hosts server. I am using Networksolutions as my host and have for years. They work for me and I have had no problems at all. None. This is not an endorsement, just the fact. If I had had any problems with them, I would have been out of here years ago. I have recommended them to others and would continue to do so.

Let me say, that GenCart SEEMS to be like WordPress in that they both are, what I would call, template-based concepts. You can install themes and manipulate them. I installed WordPress because I was tired of having to install a version for IE, a version for Mozilla, a version for Chrome, etc. Detecting which version they were using when they visited the site and then loading the corresponding webpage version accordingly. Frustrating when the images move between versions.

So. I have WordPress installed and my first few blog entries done. I will be transferring my images, layouts, and content over to the WordPress version from here on. As I said before, I am probably going to make mistakes along the way, so if I start down some road I shouldn’t be going down or if you have any suggestions, let me know quickly. Explain what your idea is and why I am about to crash into a brick wall! :) Preferably before I hit the wall.

So, I have my Workpress installed and downloaded a copy to my local computer for backup. I am now going to see about downloading a theme to use as a template. I noticed there are many out there to choose from.

All for now.

First Entry

This is a new blog which I have created out of necessity. My Animal Hoops website was compromised and most browsers reported it as a bad site to visit. For those of you who have not seen the original site, I created it from scratch using my wife’s images and guidance. We chose to use GenCart for our website to sell a variety of products from Coloring Books to coffee mugs with images of Hippos. I had started a “weekly” newsletter that I was not able to keep up due to other obligations, but the primary problem was that the site was compromised very quickly.

I do not think the fact that we were using GenCart was the problem. I think my lack of basic security awareness was the problem. I will enumerate this things later so that others will not repeat my mistakes.

Anyway, I want to rebuild the website and let you all know what I am doing along the way. I am new to the whole blogging thingy, but as I go along my journey, perhaps you can learn from my mistakes, offer advice, and guide me as I continue on my way.
